Why do our teeth turn yellow?

The enamel of your teeth defines the color of your teeth and it can vary. Not everyone has naturally white teeth. The root cause of yellow teeth is enamel wear. Enamel is the hard layer on the surface of your teeth. Over time, it wears down and the dentin becomes more visible. Dentin is usually yellowish or ivory in color. It is for this reason that your teeth appear white. Also, some bad habits such as poor hygiene, excessive consumption of certain products can yellow the teeth.

Our tips for impeccable oral hygiene

First, it is important to choose a good toothbrush. If you do not have any particular dental problems, choose a toothbrush with soft bristles. Hard toothbrushes can damage tooth enamel or promote receding gums. Promote gentle but regular tooth brushing 3 times a day. Brush your teeth for at least 3 minutes starting from the bottom of the tooth and going up to the top. Repeat the process on all your teeth, front and back.

You can choose an electric or manual toothbrush depending on your preference. The electric toothbrush is known to remove more tartar with less effort. If you have wrist pain, maybe try the electric toothbrush. On the other hand, for children, it is recommended to favor the manual toothbrush until 8 or 9 years old.

It is also important to change your toothbrush regularly every 4 months or as soon as you notice that the bristles of the brush are no longer straight. Also, can contain different bacteria if used too long.

Then, complete the toothbrushing with dental floss to remove food residue between the teeth or at the base of the teeth. These are areas that are difficult to access with the toothbrush.

You can finish your dental routine with a mouthwash. They are generally formulated with active ingredients with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory benefits to help you maintain good dental hygiene and prevent bacteria or relieve inflammation.

Here are 5 rules to apply to have beautiful teeth:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes
  • Choose a soft toothbrush
  • Change toothbrush every 3 months
  • Use the correct brushing technique: with the toothbrush angled at 45° on the teeth and the gum and brushing from the gum to the tooth
  • Go to the dentist at least once a year
