Pigeons love to settle on our balconies and window sills. Fortunately, there are some natural solutions to scare them away!
Pigeons are today considered undesirable birds by man. Driven out of towns and countryside, they nevertheless love to settle everywhere in our gardens, on our roofs, on our balconies, and on our windowsills to set up their nest and make their droppings. Unfortunately, the uric acid contained in their droppings is very harmful and degrades the surfaces they touch. Not to mention that at the aesthetic level… there is better! If you are tired of constantly cleaning up droppings and chasing away pigeons with useless threatening cries and gestures, here are our tips to scare them away permanently.
- Do not allow them access between your tiles
To make their nest, pigeons like to nest between the tiles. Prevent them from entering it by installing so-called tile stoppers. Simply fix them with clips or screws to completely block the passage. In this way, you slow down the attempts of intrusion by pigeons, but also by rodents. You can also install small barriers in fine mesh. The pose is long, but the effect is guaranteed and economical.

- Prevent them from accessing the gutters and the chimney
Pigeons like to nest in gutters. To prevent them, install a fine mesh or small clips with spikes; this will allow the water to drain.
For the chimney, the mesh is also an interesting solution, because it does not block the exit of the smoke.
- How to scare away pigeons from a balcony?
Pigeons love balconies because they see them as large, comfortable perches from which they can safely survey the world around them. Nevertheless, their presence can be very painful, especially because of their droppings which soil your exterior and your furniture. Here are our tips for scaring them away.

- Avoid allowing them to land on your balcony
Pigeons like to rest on stable and straight surfaces. Place sloped coverings made of PVC, metal, plexiglass, or any other material on your balcony and window sills. You can fix them with adhesive so you can easily remove them. Pigeons will not be able to perch there and will no longer come to settle there.
Do not hesitate either to fix small spikes (of the skewer type) on your edges if the pigeons persist. Admittedly, they are unattractive, but the birds will not be able to circumvent them and will end up no longer trying to come to your home.

- Don’t feed them
Do not make food available to pigeons, either directly or indirectly. Even avoid grass seeds as much as possible. Indeed, birds have a good memory and always come back where they find food.
Avoid making your garden welcoming
If the pigeons feel comfortable in your garden, they will come there all the time. Avoid leaving them perches and places to settle. Place anti-bird nets on your fruit trees and do not hesitate to erect skewers in places where they are used to settling, especially in the spring, the nesting period.
- Place objects to scare them
To scare away pigeons, do not hesitate to place scarers, objects that reflect light (such as old CDs, aluminum, etc.), objects that move (mill, etc.), or moving objects in your garden. more plastic birds of prey, which the pigeons are very afraid of. Change places of objects regularly, because the birds spot them and then understand the trick and the absence of threat.

- Scare balloons, moving objects, and t-shirts
These balloons do not present any danger and are simple to set up. They measure almost 40 cm in diameter and look like big eyes. Oddly enough, the pigeons are afraid of it. Arrange several of them where pigeons tend to settle, at the rate of one balloon for 300 to 500 m².
Pigeons also do not like moving objects, as their movements frighten them. Make a small scarecrow in the shape of a very simple windmill. The movement and rustle of the wings will scare the pigeons.
Another simple trick: the T-shirt! Just put an old t-shirt on a hanger and hang it on the balcony or near a ledge.
The birds will take fright and flee. On the other hand, remember to change its place from time to time to prevent them from getting used to it.
- Ultrasonic boxes
These boxes sold in gardening and DIY stores are fixed on the facade of your house or your balcony. They emit ultrasound imperceptible to the human ear, but repel birds, including pigeons.
- The taut threads

- The repellent spray
This solution, which works identically with cats, is also very effective against pigeons. Every week, spray pigeon repellent spray on places where birds like to land, such as balcony railings, cornices, window sills, etc. Put off by the smell, the pigeons will no longer come to settle there! This trick is also effective against other invasive birds such as magpies, starlings, seagulls, or crows. In addition, the spray is safe for the animal.
